Angela Simmons‘ son won over the Internet after showing fans just how well he speaks.
The “Growing Up Hip Hop” star took to her Instagram page on Monday and uploaded a video of her and her 2-year-old Sutton Joseph going over vocabulary flashcards. Simmons told fans she was initially concerned about her son’s speech development after it took him a little while to begin talking.
“For a while my little one was taking his sweet time talking,” the 31-year-old mother wrote in her caption. “It worried me …. I did everything I could to assure his speech . And he has come a long way.”
Simmons continued by saying that she and SJ practice his vocab flashcards every day and that the 2-year-old’s speech has made great process. The toddler not only speaks English, he also speaks Spanish.

“I do flash cards with him everyday. Super proud of his growth. He is bilingual. So he knows Spanish as well. So I couldn’t be prouder of how he is developing 💕,” she wrote.
In the video, baby SJ repeated every word his mother asked him to say, including “and” and “now.” Fans completely fawned over how well the 2-year-old was able to articulate his words.
“Awwwwwwww 😍 omg this child is too cute and smart!!!!” one fan exclaimed.
A second fan wrote, “I like how he put the word other together ❤️ I’m impressed for him to only be two years old.”
A third fan added, “Yassssss SJ KNOCK THEM CARDS DOWN 💪🏾🤗 the English teacher in me gets excited when I see children learning 💕! You’re doing GREAT momma!”
Simmons, the daughter of DJ Rev Run, welcomed her first child SJ in September 2016 with her ex-fiancé Sutton Tennyson, who was shot to death in November 2018. Although Simmons and Tennyson called off their engagement in December 2017, the two were still co-parenting their son.
Simmons took her ex-fiancé’s death hard. She shared a series of photos of Tennyson with their son SJ in tribute to his passing.
“Thank you for leaving behind my greatest gift,” the star wrote on Instagram Nov. 4. “I promise to hold SJ down in every way I promise,” she concluded, adding a heart emoji.
Tennyson was shot multiple times at his Atlanta home. The Atlanta Police Department reported that “upon arrival, officers discovered a 37-year-old black male lying deceased, with multiple gunshot wounds, inside an open garage.”
He reportedly got into a heated argument with another male and it escalated to multiple shots being fired by the suspect. The man thought responsible for Tennyson’s death surrendered to local police a week later.
