Rihanna Responds to TLC’s Accusation That Pop Stars Feel a Need to Be Naked to Get Attention

Forget angry diss tracks, endless Facebook rants and lengthy open letters. Singer Rihanna took a different approach to get back at her critics, and all it took was a simple change of her Twitter header photo.

Rihanna’s new header is a cropped image of a scantily clad music group TLC. It might seem random, but it’s actually a direct response to the two surviving members of TLC, who recently slammed pop stars for their choice in clothing — or rather, the lack thereof.

“People are usually followers. It’s rare that you have leaders who switch the game up and do something totally different,” Chilli said on Australian morning show “Channel 7 Sunrise” earlier this week. “So you have all these followers, all of them doing the same thing as a result … posting half-naked pictures of themselves on Twitter and Instagram – it’s just crazy, almost like you are dying for attention.”

“Every time I see you you don’t have to be naked,” T-Boz chimed in. “It’s hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, ‘Oh, TLC must be jealous,’ but I call a spade a spade.”

“We became the biggest girl selling group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot,” Chilli added.

While TLC didn’t call out anyone directly, it’s no secret that Rihanna loves to show her body, whether it’s via social media or at formal events. Earlier this week, the outfit she wore to the CFDA Fashion Awards drew sharp criticism for its revealing (read: near-naked) nature. But many would say that if you’re going to go ahead and call people out for flaunting their birthday suits, you might want to make sure you’re covered up, too.
