Derrick Rose Will Need Surgery Due to Torn Right Meniscus

The Chicago Bulls announced Saturday that Derrick Rose is out indefinitely with a medial meniscus tear to his right knee, which will require surgery.

Rose, who was previously out for 19 months and missed all of last season after tearing his left ACL , incurred the injury against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Rose had an MRI in Los Angeles on Saturday where it was confirmed that he won’t be with the team for its remaining four games on its six-game trip.

“We’ve been there before. We just got to pick it up,” Loul Deng told ESPN Chicago.

“Obviously, it would be a setback not having him but we’ve been there before so we just got to play together.” Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters. “We’ll take it step by step. We have to figure that part out and we will. The games are going to keep coming. No one will feel sorry for us. So we’re going to have to be ready.”

A torn meniscus isn’t as bad as a torn ACL so the good news is Rose won’t be out nearly as long as he was before.

“That helps that locker room because they know there’s a return date,” said Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who is close friends with Thibodeau. “With ACLs, there’s no return date.”
