Parents of a one-year-old boy who was severely injured at a daycare facility have filed a lawsuit against the company.
Jesse Harris III and Tiffany Griffin arrived at Kiddie Garden Day Care in April only to find their son’s face bloody and bruised. The mother said her son’s face had cuts, his eyes and lips were swollen and he was screaming at the top of his lungs when she arrived to pick up the baby.
“I want the truth. Most of all I want the truth. I want the truth to come out,” said the toddler’s father told WTHR. “I want the truth. Most of all I want the truth. I want the truth to come out.”
One of the daycare employees claimed that baby Jesse Harris was assaulted by another child. The worker was terminated and the facility was shut down on May 2 by the Family and Social Services Administration.
A medical official said the daycare’s report matched up with the medical exam and the one-year-old was injured by another small child according to Prosecutor Terry Curry.
Baby Jesse spend two days in the hospital for his injuries and his parents are curious why wasn’t their son supervised or why didn’t the establishment dial 911.
“I want some form of justice. Like, I really want her to be held accountable,” Harris said of that employee,” the toddler’s dad expressed.
The parent’s lawsuit filed on Wednesday claims that Kiddie Garden failed to properly supervise their son and obtain medical treatment for the toddler, Fox 59 reported.
Curry wrote in a press statement, “The child was reportedly placed in a safe sleeping environment in the same room as an age appropriate child and checked on by the employee periodically… The day care employee who was responsible for the child’s care has cooperated in the investigation.”
Baby Jesse’s parents said their son is healing, but he’s not quite the same “happy baby” he was.
“We’ve literally been taking it one day at a time. Some days he’s happy, some days he’s not himself,” said the father.
The toddler’s parents are seeking damages and have requested for a trial date which hasn’t been set yet. The family has yet to list a dollar amount.
