A Mother Unapologetically Jumps On Stage to Rescue Her Daughter from a Singing Meltdown

A video of a mother saving her child from a performance disaster on stage went viral with over 7 million views.

Shaye Washington of Georgia may just be ‘mother of the year’ after she leaped up on stage when her 10-year-old daughter got stage fright during a talent show. Little Makayla Ferrell opted to sing Andra Day’s song “Rise Up” and quickly became overwhelmed.

“I just forgot because I was nervous to, like, even sing anymore,” the 10-year-old told CBS News.

For a second, Ferrell’s voice faded and she froze up, but Washington’s motherly instincts kicked in and she swooped in to her daughter’s rescue. She began singing where her daughter left off.

“I was like, ‘Uh-oh it looks like she’s about to have a meltdown or have a breakdown.’ And I don’t want her to feel defeated … so that’s when I just stepped in to help get her going,” the mother said. She explains the song’s significance. “It means a lot… It means perseverance… Before I moved to Colorado … that was one of the songs that helped me push on.”

The Colorado resident received an exponential amount of praises from countless mothers who appreciate her willingness to help her daughter.

Washington wrote on her Facebook,” My motherly instincts just kicked in. I wanted to teach my daughter perseverance. I am so grateful for all of the love I am receiving from strangers, because sometimes I am hard on myself as a mom and think I’m not doing enough so all of the kind words are definitely a breath of fresh air. God sure knows how to knock my socks off. This is a lot.”

The 10-year-old responded, “I think she does everything for me. She gets everything for me,” she said. “Sometimes I feel like … I don’t say … don’t act like I’m thankful, but I want to be more thankful and thank her.”
