Cardi B Gets Credit from Bernie Sanders Over ‘Make America Great Again’ Quote

An avid fan of presidential trivia, Cardi B said recently that the president who truly made America great again was Franklin D. Roosevelt and Bernie Sanders agrees.

“He helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair,” Cardi said of FDR in GQ’s May issue. “Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great — make America great again for real. He’s the real ‘Make America Great Again,’ because if it wasn’t for him, old people wouldn’t even get Social Security.”

The “Be Careful” rapper’s love of history quickly made headlines and her quote about Social Security even caught the eye of 2016 presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders.

“Cardi B is right,” he tweeted Wednesday, April 18. “If we are really going to make America great we need to strengthen Social Security so that seniors are able to retire with the dignity they deserve.”

He added in a video that “we’ve got to protect social security for all generations.”

In reaction, others have been posting mixed responses online.

“1992: Bill Clinton: throws Bronx born hip hop artist Sista Souljah under the bus,” someone tweeted. “2018: Bernie Sanders: ‘Cardi B was right.'”

“Bernie Sanders is quoting Cardi B? I don’t give a DAMN what Cardi B thinks about Social Security, why should I?” someone else said. “Why in the eff would I care about what a 25-year-old thinks about Social Security? People have lost their damn minds and as for BS, it’s pure pandering.”

“Cardi B felt the Bern in 2016 and told fans to ‘vote for Daddy Bernie,'” another user began. “Two years later and a serious catapult to superstardom for @iamcardib, Bernie is still thriving and apparently a big supporter of her. 2018 is weird.”

“Bernie Sanders: I may not be Cardi B, but I’m trying to figure out how we can ‘Ride the dick like a BMX’ right to the polls,” another mockingly tweeted.
