British model and activist Adwoa Aboah is suing her former management company, claiming it cheated her out of half the payments owed to her beginning in 2015.
Aboah, who has been voted Model of the Year by models.com, says The Lions Model Management has not paid her the $190,000 she deserves because she left the company, TMZ reported Thursday, March 22.
Documents the gossip website obtained say Aboah earned $670,000 in the span of more than two years beginning in January 2015 through July 2017. However, her managers kept nearly 50 percent of that. When Aboah commanded she receives her payment, the company sent her just a portion of what she was owed.
The 25-year-old April Allure magazine cover girl ultimately left TLMM last year and signed with DNA Management. But her original management team has yet to pay her and she claims it is holding out as punishment for her parting ways.
“Fashion models are not indentured servants,” she said in the filing which seeks the owed debt as well as damages.
The Lions Model Management said Aboah asked to be released early from her three-year contract and it claimed DNA and Aboah’s mother, Camilla Lowther, who is the head of CLM Agency, poached her from them in a lawsuit filed in September 2017, according to WWD.
