Singer Who Said America Was ‘Made By Dreamers’ Reveals Blue Ivy Gave Her a ‘Moment of Insecurity’

Singer Camila Cabello explained while everyone was laughing at Blue Ivy Carter’s viral shushing moment at the Grammys, the 6-year-old made her feel insecure for a moment.

The ex-Fifth Harmony member explained that during her speech about immigrants’ role in America, Carter’s hand motion to seemingly tell parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z to be quiet made her question if Blue enjoyed her speech. The speech was widely panned by Black viewers who questioned Cabello’s intent when she proclaimed that America was built by dreamers. In fact, viewers applauded Blue Ivy for seemingly being the only one to catch on to the false narrative.

“I had a moment of insecurity, I surprised myself,” she tells “BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show” Monday, Feb. 19. “I was like what does that mean? I’m not gonna go into this wormhole of ‘Do you think she didn’t like my speech?’ I literally stopped, I was like, ‘I’m not gonna think about that. ”

Cabello added that she thinks the oldest of Bey and Jay’s children would like her since other kids usually do. Then, host Nick Grimshaw told her he thinks Blue may have been trying to get her parents to stop clapping because Cabello was still talking.

“That’s so sweet,” Cabello says.
