A Tennesee high school student won acclaim when she embraced her bald look after a bully snatched her wig off in a viral video. And now, she’s got supermodel Tyra Banks in her corner.

Lauren “Lulu” Williams, a 16-year-old who attends Franklin High School, went viral when a boy ran up to her in the hallway, yanked her wig off and kept running. The text over the video read “weave snatchin” and was posted on Snapchat.

Williams’ mother, Myckelle Williams, posted about the incident on Facebook Saturday, Jan. 27 saying boys took a $5 bet Friday to pull off the wig in front of everyone. They later followed her into the bathroom and taped her in the stall crying and begging for the hair. The mother had to take Williams to the hospital for treatment for abrasions and whiplash as the hair was attached by glue and pins.

“Lulu has a scalp condition that causes severe dryness and hair breakage and loss and had been so ashamed of her appearance that she had taken to wearing wigs in an effort to still feel beautiful,” Myckelle Williams wrote. “We all know how easy it is to feel insecure at age 16.”

But her daughter decided to embrace her new look and “take back her control.”

Now, the school is investigating the incident, according to a statement from Williamson County Schools obtained by News Channel 5.

“The Franklin High administration and the School Resource Officer immediately began investigating an incident when it was reported to them Friday afternoon,” it said. “This type of behavior can never be tolerated at school. In addition to school discipline, WCS prosecutes delinquent behavior to the fullest extent of the law.”

Meanwhile, Williams’ story has earned her lots of support with commenters remarking the teen is “BEAUTIFUL!!!!” and “absolutely stunning!”

The story has made it all the way to the likes of Banks, host of “America’s Next Top Model,” who frequently implores girls and women to embrace their unique beauty. Banks also shared her own photo sans wig.

“I want to let you know how unbelievably fierce you are … Someone momentarily lacking judgment and kindness pulled off your wig and another person felt the need to chase you down and capture it all on camera,” Banks wrote Wednesday, Jan. 31 on Instagram. “But what they fail to realize is those moments changed you forever…for the better!!! Like you said when you shaved your head — you took BACK the power! LuLu, you are strong and you are FIERCE and I want you to continue to be courageously LOUD! Girls around the world need warrior queens like you. TyTy loves you LuLu!”
