Comedian Lil Duval wants folks to weigh in on something: is racism a thing on the West Coast anymore?
The “Grow House” actor posed the question on Twitter Monday night after tweeting, “News flash: everything ain’t about race. Truth be told they ain’t even thinking ’bout us no more.”
He followed the Jan. 29 tweet with another acknowledging he might be “tripping” but added, “it seems like racism don’t even exist no more on the west coast. It’s still classism but the ‘I don’t like you because of yo color’ s—,’ I don’t see it.”
On Instagram, he added that he was specifically comparing the racism encountered on the west coast to the kind endured in the south noting, “to me the west coast is 10 years ahead of the rest of the country.”
Yet Twitter fans weren’t too supportive of the hypothesis.
“They try to disguise it, but nah it’s alive and breathing…” one person said.
“That’s a very simplistic view on racism. Racism is ingrained in American life, including classism. I saw that 60 percent of those on Skid Row in L.A. are Black [men],” another added, although Statistical Atlas reported Skid Row is 45 percent Black. “How is that not racism?”
“Was the Rodney King beaten in New York?” another person asked, remarking on the taxi driver who was videoed being beaten by Los Angeles police in 1991.
Duval didn’t respond to such comments, but when one person asked why people who make money begin questioning the existence of racism, he hit reply.
“It’s because when u get money u see more and u realize it’s bigger than that,” he said.
Yet on Instagram, the comic had more favorable support, even though many said racism definitely still exists on the coast.
