CNN host Van Jones defended Jay-Z after President Trump tweeted a demeaning message about Jay’s comments regarding unemployment.

“Someone needs to inform @realdonaldtrump that I ALREADY asked Jay Z whether black employment figures redeem Trump’s presidency. And Jay’s answer last night on the #VanJonesShow was POWERFUL !!! … Watch the VIDEO for yourself”, Van Jones tweeted in response to Trump’s post.

Shawn Carter “Jay-Z” stopped by Jones’ show on Sunday and gave his thoughts on Trump’s obscene remarks about Africa and Haiti and said that “it’s disappointing and hurtful”.

Jones expanded on the decreasing Black unemployment rates. “Does he [President Trump] have a point that maybe the Democrats have been giving us good lip service, but no jobs. He may say terrible things, but putting money in our pockets. Does that make him a good leader”, Jones asked. The rapper responded, “It’s not about the money, it’s about the respect.”

After Trump attacked Jay-Z, Jones thanked Trump for the publicity and said it was sad because he missed Jay-Z’s point. He told his co-host, Brian Stelter, “It’s sad because we were actually discussing the black unemployment rate… Jay-Z said something you don’t hear from many billionaires. “‘It’s not about the money, it’s about the respect.’ And so, we had a very powerful moment there. Apparently, Trump missed the whole point and actually walked right back into the trap.”

Jones noted, “It’s great PR for the show, it’s bad for the country when you have a president who wants to lecture an African-American rapper, an African-American pundit about African-American issues with bad facts and no information about the show.”

The CNN host explained that just because Trump is making progress regarding unemployment for Blacks doesn’t give him the right to be disrespectful. He praised Jay and said,”Jay-Z is setting a better example than Donald Trump.”
