Jill Scott has closed the curtain on her marriage to Mike Dobson. The singer filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage in September, according to documents recently obtained by Bossip. While Dobson hadn’t responded to the Tennessee-based filing, he’s giving his side of the tale today.
Scott, who listed the spouses’ separation date as Sept. 5, cited “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct that such further cohabitation would be unsafe and improper” as the reason for the split.
However, Dobson says the couple agreed to separate and work on their relationship while continuing to wear their wedding rings, adding that he was “blindsided” by the petition.
“She’s an evil woman … It’s like what Jill Scott wants, Jill Scott gets,” he told Bossip Tuesday, Nov. 7. “People are in her ear, and if someone comes in to challenge the dumb s—, they made me be the bad guy and that got me outta there.”
“She’s got issues. There’s no men in that family, there’s only women,” he continued, seeming to allude to Scott being raised by her mother and grandmother. “And when a man comes in, it’s like a challenge.”
Dobson was listed on the filing as unemployed but said he has held a job with the City of Atlanta since 2011. He also clarified that he has never laid a finger on the singer, nor has he cheated or sexually assaulted her, all of which would be covered under Tenessee’s definition of “inappropriate marital conduct.”

“She’s made other men look bad, but I’m not the one. I said [to her] ‘You’ve met your match,’” Dobson said. “She likes to have men that she can control. You’re not gonna control me. What’s right is right, and what’s wrong is wrong.”
Scott, who was last photographed with Dobson at The Made Man Awards in January, has not publicly responded to Dobson’s take.

Dobson had been described as Scott’s longtime boyfriend before marrying in an unannounced ceremony last June.
“So my man called me a year ago and said, ‘Mars I need you to DJ my wedding … don’t get booked on June 25th 2016!’ ” Dobson’s friend, DJ Mars said on social media at the time. “He came to my house and gave me the deposit early, but he didn’t say he was marrying Jill Scott!!!!! Damn homie!!!!!!!!!!”
This marks the second divorce for Scott, who split from DJ Lyzel Williams in 2007. She then dated the father of her 8-year-old son Jett, drummer Lil’ John Roberts. However, their relationship ended in a broken engagement.
