‘Flip Or Flop’ Franchise Adds This Black Couple and Fans Can’t Get Enough

In a year filled with drama and cancellations for HGTV renovation shows, fans are eager for the newest crop of stars. Ashley and Andy Williams are married veterans creating fabulous home makeovers on “Flip Or Flop Forth Worth.” The new series was originally set to debut next year but is now premiering Thursday, Nov. 2. It will follow the couple Ashley, a designer, and Andy, a real estate agent and home renovation expert, take some of the city’s worst homes and make them golden.

“Our flips can get a bit chaotic,” Ashley, an Amry vet, said in a press release. “But that’s good when flipping a house because it means things are rolling and you’re getting closer to selling the home for top dollar.”

“Our big thing is that we don’t just go into the best neighborhood and buy the worst house,” Andy, a Marine Corps veteran, tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We go into probably the second-best neighborhood … and we like to try to operate within the zip code. It’s very common for me to buy multiple houses in the same zip code because I want to revitalize the area and the community.”

The Texas duo joins a slew of the home decor and reno channel’s couples, including Tarek and Christina El Moussa, whose marriage fell apart during “Flip Or Flop,” and Chip and Joanna Gaines, who are gearing up for the final season of “Fixer Upper.”

However, the Williamses are only two of a handful of Black hosts on the network. Egypt Sherrod is perhaps one of HGTV’s most recognizable faces. She has hosted “Property Virgins” since 2011 and in 2014, HGTV recruited Tulsa, Okla. residents Daniel and Melinda Waife. Their series, “Flipping the Heartland,” aired for one season in 2015.

Now, Ashley and Andy get the spotlight. And while fans will have to wait a few more weeks to see the couple in action, they’re already buzzing about HGTV’s newest hosts.
