Issa Rae is a CoverGirl and has now achieved something beyond her wildest dreams. A glimpse at the “Insecure” creator’s announcement, firmly shows she couldn’t be more thrilled.
And really, who wouldn’t be?
“Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be [a CoverGirl],” she gushed on Instagram Tuesday, Sept. 12. “I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”
I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I'd be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come. Visit @COVERGIRL to learn more #COVERGIRLMADE
Also honored is CoverGirl. The brand excitedly confirmed the news on its Instagram page, too.
And fans can’t stop praising the star.
Rae joins an elite group of Black women who have modeled for the 56-year-old brand, including Rihanna, Janelle Monáe, Brandy, Queen Latifah and Tyra Banks.
Get Real with Issa Rae
“Makeup gives me a certain sense of self, security and confidence,” Rae dished to BuzzFeed about her love of cosmetics. “I’m in charge of how I represent myself, whether as an actress or showing different sides of my personality.”
Despite believing there are “no rules” when it comes to makeup, the actress has had some misses with foundation.
“I just remember not knowing what to do and went to my local drugstore to buy foundation,” she said of gearing up to go the club with her friends as a college freshman. “Didn’t test it out, but was like, ‘This looks like my skin, right?’ and just smeared it like it was lotion. I thought I was ready showing up to my friend’s place. My friends were like, ‘Girl, no, take that off.’ And then they helped match my shade and reapply.
“This experience reminds me of why I’m excited to be a CoverGirl, and how I can help other people find what works for them.”
