A man who has stalked Malia Obama since her days in the White House has reportedly been detained after he followed the teen at her internship.

Sources for the New York Daily News say Secret Service agents interviewed Jair Nilton Cardoso at his Brooklyn, N.Y., apartment Thursday, April 13, after he confronted 18-year-old Obama twice that week. They concluded 30-year-old Cardoso needed a psychiatric evaluation, which he received at a local hospital. Five days later, agents reported him to the NYPD. Officers are contemplating whether to file stalking or harassment charges against Cardoso, who has no prior criminal record in NYC.

Cardoso, who repeatedly attempted to get into the White House in the past, was commanded by agents to leave Obama alone after he appeared on April 10 at a Manhattan building where she is interning. He reportedly held up a sign and “loudly begged” Obama to marry him.

Two days later, as she was leaving another New York City building, Cardoso followed her.

Obama has been interning for The Weinstein Company at their New York offices since February.

“As a matter of practice, the Secret Service does not comment on the means and methods of protective operations or investigations,” a Secret Service spokesperson told the Daily News.

Malia Obama has had her fair share of issues in the public eye. Last summer, she was criticized for enjoying herself at Lollapalooza, where she was captured dancing and allegedly smoking marijuana.

She is set to attend Harvard University this fall after taking a gap year following high school graduation last year.
