Arizona High School Allowed Confederate Flag Shirts but Banned Teen from Wearing BLM Shirt

On Aug. 23, a 15-year-old Buckeye, Arizona high school student was banned from wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt on picture day.

According to KPNX, Buckeye High School sophomore Mariah Havard was banned from wearing the shirt after administrators received an anonymous complaint.

“I wasn’t able to wear the shirt anymore because somebody made a complaint,” Mariah tells reporters. “I was a little bit confused as to why I wouldn’t be able to wear something so meaningful to me.”

Administrators believed that the shirt supporting the anti-police brutality movement violated dress code.

They also stated that the shirt could be a distraction to the learning environment.

However, Mariah’s friend, Genesis Santoyo states that students have worn Confederate flag and white power shirts.

But, those students received no punishment.

Now, school officials have decided to ban Confederate flag attire after Genesis pointed out the double standard.
