One More White Racist Loses Their Job for Threatening Black Activist on Facebook

A top employee at New York Life Insurance has earned a spot in the unemployment line after spewing threatening and disparaging remarks at a Black Lives Matter activist on Facebook.

According to the Daily Dot, former managing director Corey Multer was fired by the insurance company Wednesday after he reportedly contacted Black Lives Matter leader Shanelle Matthews and called her a “racist pig whore.”

“The world would be a much better place if you jumped in front of a moving train. Die!,” Multer also said in a message to Matthews via Facebook Messenger.

Matthews currently serves as lead communications strategist for the Black Lives Matter National Network and formerly worked as a strategist for the American Civil Liberties Union, the Daily Dot reports. She felt that she may have been targeted because of her outward support of Palestinian rights.

“What Mr. Multer’s vicious remarks actually say is that my values and beliefs are not only wrong and unvalued but that I deserve to die because of them,” Matthews wrote on her Facebook page. “We all have a moral and ethical responsibility to hold accountable those who use rhetoric to incite unprovoked violence, to affirm that a grievance of disagreement does not warrant a death wish, and that people’s sexual proclivities don’t make them disposable.”

Matthews took a screenshot of the threatening remarks and posted it to Twitter, ultimately notifying New York Life that they had an undercover racist on their hands.

The insurance company responded several hours later to announce Multer’s termination.

This incident is just another notch in the worrisome trend of social media users posting racist, bigoted comments online for all the world to see — and ultimately ending their careers. Earlier this month, a Dallas meteorologist was fired after he made disparaging remarks about the Mothers of the Movement, a group of women who lost their sons to police and/or gun violence. The women, most of whom were African-American, were invited to speak at this year’s Democratic National Convention.

“As many of you have probably noticed, I’ve stayed away from politics on FB,” KRLD-AM weatherman Bob Goosmann wrote on his social media page. “The DNC parading the mothers of slain thugs around their stage has me furious.”

Goosmann tried to save face by saying he was unaware that the word “thug” carried a racial connotation, but it was too late.

In July, a mortgage loan officer was terminated from her job after calling first lady Michelle Obama an “ugly Black b—-“ via Twitter. Other social media users quickly notified her employer, Home Point Financial, after which she was given the boot.
