16 Most Memorable Black Twitter Moments of 2015

After a video by James Wright sampling a Patti Labelle sweet potato pie from Wal-Mart went viral, the pies began flying off the shelves.  In fact, Wal-Mart ran out of the “Patti Pies” and a Twitter hashtag was born. The memes circulating the “Twittersphere” were as good, if not better, than the pies themselves.

This hashtag was a celebration of Black women and the many accomplishments and memorable moments throughout the year.  Among those celebrated were the swearing in of Loretta Lynch as U.S. Attorney General, Bree Newsome taking down the confederate flag from South Carolina statehouse grounds following the Charleston murders, Misty Copeland as the first African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theater, and Viola Davis as the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama.
