Designers from the Caribbean, U.S. and Dominican Republic Gather for Haiti Fashion Week

1553306_637074769746382_1626591707764769348_oThe fourth edition of Haiti Fashion Week kicked off today at Karibe Hotel, with the theme Nourrir Haiti (Nurture Haiti).

More than 40 designers from the Caribbean, the United States and Dominican Republic will showcase their collections from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8.

“Haiti Fashion Week is a space for designers to find new markets,” designer and Haiti Fashion Week coordinator Michel Chataigne, said. We want to “develop” and “revitalize” the sector.

This year’s fashion week is honoring Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean and France, for being pioneers in the fashion world. The fashion showcase is also putting emphasis on agriculture and “feeding the country.”

“Fashion can be used to promote agriculture,” Maguy Durce, president of modeayiti and Haiti Fashion week said. “The fabrics we use are the byproducts of agriculture.”

“We changed the image of the country with music, dance, art and literature,” Durce, said. “Now we’re going to do it with fashion.

“This 4th edition confirms that Haiti is the pioneer of the Caribbean fashion.”
