Gunfire Erupts in Ferguson During Anniversary of Mike Brown’s Death

Peaceful protests in Ferguson commemorating the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of Mike Brown by police officer Darren Wilson was interrupted by gunfire late Sunday night. At least one individual was critically injured from the shootings.

The shooting victim was identified as Tyrone Harris, 18, a 2015 Normandy High graduate. The St. Louis County Police Department confirmed that one of their officers shot someone at the protest.

The department tweeted from its social media account that two unmarked cars were hit by gunfire.

Large crowds gathered in Ferguson to honor the life and memory of Mike Brown, whose death sparked the national Black Lives Matter Movement. Immediately after the shooting, prominent activists took to Twitter to express their dismay at the police violence exhibited on this specific date.
