Leaving the Pink Wigs Far Behind, Nicki Minaj is the New Face of Roberto Cavalli

Award-winning artist Nicki Minaj hasn’t lost steam since releasing her third studio album “The Pink Print” earlier this week—she has just been named the new face of Roberto Cavalli.

The “Anaconda” songstress revealed the news via posts on Instagram yesterday of Cavalli’s latest campaign, writing “I am so honored to be the face of the new #RobertoCavalliSS15 campaign. #NickiforCavalli.”

The campaign shot by Italian photographer Francesco Carrozzini showcases Minaj in a variety of exquisite dresses ranging from flashy to elegant and sporting a jet black bouffant, giving the photos an air of old-school Hollywood glamour.

“I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman,” Cavalli said in a statement. “In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body—who is not afraid to show her curves. Instead, she makes them her strength.”

This has been quite a year for the rapper, as she underwent a complete  image overhaul, switching out her florescent pink and blonde wigs for a more naturally beautiful look and has recently graced the covers of big name, mainstream publications such as Elle, V, Dazed, The Fader, and Billboard.

“Before my first album, I used to have a natural look,” Nicki told E! . “Only my really underground followers knew that side of me and then I think mainstream only knew the wigs and stuff like that. But I wasn’t always looking like that. So, I always thought that it would come full circle eventually and I was thinking what else can I do? Cause by the time my third album comes out I’m gonna have to go back to the basics because what other color wig can I put on my head? I was running low on ideas and people just reacted really well to the natural look.”

Minaj will be using this natural look to represent Roberto Cavalli’s eyewear, accessory and ready-to-wear lines.
