Christopher Columbus Discovered America
Columbus made a daring journey across the Atlantic Ocean to discover America. So the fable goes, he was about to be buried at sea by his crew when someone noticed land. Tragically, Columbus died poor.
Reality: Neither Columbus nor Vikings were the first to touch down in America. Native Americans were here in 60 B.C. Columbus and his crew enjoyed smooth sailing to America, and he was not about to be thrown overboard. Oh, and he died a wealthy man, understanding America’s potential: “I have come to believe that this is a mighty continent which was hitherto unknown,” he wrote in his journal.
