Know Your Historical Roots
As Black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey said: “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
By age 30, every African-American man should have a firm understanding of history—not just American history, but the real history of Africa before slavery. Without this knowledge of self, it is virtually impossible for Black people to move forward.
