Dominica, Chinese Firm Ink $300M Deal For Hotel, Hospital And Airport

The Dominica government and a Chinese company have signed a new cooperation agreement in the amount of $300 million.

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and the president of ASCG, Xue Song, signed the agreement on Nov. 8 at Pudong Shangri-la Hotel, Shanghai, according to media reports.

An ASCG statement states the works for this cooperation agreement “includes the reconstruction of an international tourism hotel, construction of an international airport and building a new hospital, totaling about USD300 million”.

Among these, the international tourism hotel is the first project to be built, and it will be located in the capital city, Roseau, with total investment of $70 million.

The Chinese Government will provide preferential loan to support those projects.

Political advisor of Commonwealth of Dominica Hartley Henry, chairman of the Agricultural Industrial & Development Bank of Dominica Martin Charles, Prime Minister assistant David Xu, special envoy of Commonwealth of Dominica in China Robert Woe Yao were in attendance at the signing ceremony.

Under-Secretary-General of Anhui Provincial People’s Government Zhang Wuyang, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Commerce of Anhui Province Zhu Lin, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office Zhang Minsheng, Chief Accountant of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Anhui Province Jiang Yang, Deputy Division Chief of Latin America Division of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yi Yuanqing, ASCG General Manager Wang Yueyuan and ASCG Deputy General Manager Huang Youbao also attended the meeting.

ASCG’s general manager Wang Yueyuan who hosted the signing ceremony said since both countries established diplomatic relations in 2004, the Chinese government has strengthened the cooperation with and support to Dominica.

They have also encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Dominica as well as visit the island for tourism and sightseeing.

He noted that Dominica adheres to the one-China policy that builds a solid foundation for the cooperation in politics, economy, trade and culture.

Anhui Provincial Party Committee and Government were strongly supportive of the project in Dominica signed by ASCG, and encouraged more enterprises to develop in Dominica.

The government and people of Dominica, Skerrit said, are willing to build a partnership of mutual trust and benefit between both countries. The cooperation must drive the communication and development between both countries to deeper level.

Meanwhile, ASCG President Xue Song said that in the guidance and support of Anhui Provincial Party Committee and Government, ASCG would certainly complete the work with high efficiency and quality.
