The African-American community is plagued by an overwhelming representation of chronic illnesses such as stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
The Center for African American Health in Denver is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of African-American families.
The center partners with a variety of health-education and health-delivery organizations to develop and provide culturally appropriate disease prevention and management programs to thousands of African- Americans each year. They offer programs on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer, as well as a wellness programs for seniors, and health literacy training.
The organization also creates healthy recipes for thousands of African-American families and encourages them to exercise, eat better, lose weight and drink more water.
