‘Saturday Night Live’ Clowns Obamacare

On the “Saturday Night Live” season premiere this weekend, a spoof on the rollout of President Obama’s signature health care reform, the Affordable Care Act, was performed. Better known as Obamacare, the forthcoming legislation was put on center stage in a seven-minute skit that mocked the law as an overly complicated free-for-all.

In the skit, President Obama, played by Jay Pharoah, stood at a podium and touted the benefits of the program for “average” Americans. He then called to the stage various beneficiaries to give good reviews of the law, but things didn’t turn out so well. This was quite clear when New Mexico congressman, Ted Cruz made an appearance, by way of Taran Killam, who did a decent job impersonating the lawmaker.

One testifier said, “I am psyched for Obamacare. Now that I have health care, I can get sick all the time.”

Then another followed up with,“Mr. Obama here, he made sure my son will never have to lift a finger here to get insurance.”

And another faux Obamacare supporter, who was supposed to testify about the ease of enrolling in the program, announced he failed. It was “too complicated to figure out,” he said.
