The first “Divergent” trailer has been released, delivering the best look yet at the highly anticipated film.
The minute-long preview was introduced by stars Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), and Miles Teller (Peter), at the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show on Sunday evening.
“Divergent“ is the Neil Burger directed adaptation of Veronica Roth’s teen fantasy novel, and is Hollywood’s latest attempt at the quest to find the next ‘Harry Potter-Twilight-Hunger Games.’
In the film, Tris as a teenager who discovers she’s a divergent: a person who doesn’t fit into any one group in her futuristic dystopian society. People are divided into five factions, each dedicated to a different virtue. Abnegation (where Beatrice was raised) is for the selfless, Dauntless is for the brave, Amity is for the peaceful, Candor is for the honest and Erudite is for the intelligent. At 16, teenagers choose which group they will belong to for life, sometimes leaving behind their families and friends. When Tris rejects the establishment’s categorization, she’s soon forced to go on the run, where she picks up some skills to aid her fight for survival.
Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Tony Goldwyn, Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, and Jai Courtney also star in “Divergent,” which is scheduled to hit theaters March 21, 2014.
