Star Wars mastermind George Lucas recently tied the knot with his longtime partner of seven years, Mellody Hobson, reports NDTV Movies. But while we all know Lucas thanks to such works as the Star Wars series we might not be as familiar with his new wife Mellody.
According to her Wikipedia page, Mellody Hobson is an American businesswoman. Born in Chicago, the highlight of Mellody’s career was becoming President of Ariel Investments, “a Chicago-based investment firm catering to the needs of African-American investors,” according to Politic365 and “reportedly among the largest African-American-owned money management and mutual fund companies in the U.S.,” as per The Hollywood Reporter.
You might recognize her as a regular contributor and consultant-analyst for CBS News and ABC’s Good Morning America. She also writes for entrepreneurial and investment-focused magazines and outlets as a financial literacy guru and investor coach, as mentioned in her short bio in the Ariel Investments website.
She is active in community outreach programs and non-profit organizations, matching but not quite overshadowing George Lucas’ own strides towards humanitarian support. The Hollywood Reporter estimates that nearly all of his total $4.5 billion payday for selling his studio, Lucasfilm, ended up donated to an education foundation.
The newlyweds were first reported engaged January of this year, when The Hollywood Reporter quotes Lucas: “As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy,” referring to his decision to donate Lucasfilm proceeds and move on with his next biggest challenge – his second marriage.
His first marriage to Marcia Lucas lasted 14 years, from 1969 to 1983, according to NDTV Movies. This is Mellody Hobson’s first marriage.
