$500K in Rolex Watches Taken in Atlanta Mall Smash and Grab

ATLANTA – Police say several men stole Rolex watches worth approximately $500,000 from a store at Lenox Square Mall here on Friday.

Authorities say that five or six men used hammers to break glass cases at Mayors Jewelers, which is located on the second level of the mall.

“They knew exactly which case they were going to,” said police Sgt. Greg Lyon. “They knew exactly which watches they were taking.  Some of the watches were valued at a $100,000 a piece.”

Authorities said that the men then ran through the mall with the jewelry store manager chasing them. The manager said he saw them get into a white van and drive off.

Will Compton was inside Lenox Square Mall with his iPhone when he heard people screaming and running.

“I was just on the phone and all of a sudden there was a lot of commotion. People started running all towards my way,” Compton said.

Police say no shots were fired, but some customers were frightened by the sound of the hammers hitting the glass.

Authorities said they recovered the white van a short time later. They are searching it for evidence.

Police said they have surveillance video from the robbery, which clearly shows the suspects’ faces. They hope to release it soon.
