Southwest Atlanta Shooting Leaves 1 Man Dead, 1 Hurt

ATLANTA –  Before officers could arrive, a man was dead behind the wheel Thursday night in southwest Atlanta.

The victim, whose name was not released, had been shot multiple times inside a car, near the intersection of Parsons and Webster streets, adjacent to the Atlanta University Center, according to Atlanta Police Department Officer John Chafee.

Officers were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. and arrived to the scene of a vehicle collision, Chafee said. Two victims were inside one of the vehicles.

In addition to the dead man, a second man in the car had been shot in the hand. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition, Chafee said.

Witnesses reported a possible third occupant who left the scene on foot and may have been injured, but that person had not been located late Thursday.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a suspect approached and fired multiple times into the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene in a separate vehicle,” Chafee said in an emailed statement.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
