Wiz Khalifa Gives Rave Reviews to Twitter’s New Music Service

Rapper Wiz Khalifa has given rave reviews to Twitter’s new music app, Twitter #music, which was released Thursday and aims to change the way people find music.

“Man this new Twitter music app is insane!” Khalifa tweeted on April 12, after certain artists were given a sneak peek of the program.

The service uses activity on the social networking site to determine the most popular track and emerging artists based on user profiles and who they follow.

Naturally, the service’s most popular chart consists of the top 140 songs, all of which can be sampled for 30 seconds and then bought on iTunes via a link. Users who subscribe to Spotify or Rdio can log in with their accounts and listen to full songs if they’re available from either of the two outlets.

#music includes new ways to discover artists: “Popular” which highlights new music that’s trending; “Emerging,” which exposes hidden talent based on tweets; “#NowPlaying,” which relates music based on people a user follows; “Me,” based on which artists you follow; and “Suggested” based on what you follow.

“Twitter and music go great together,” said We Are Hunted founder Stephen Philips via a post on the social network. “People share and discover new songs and albums every day. Many of the most-followed accounts on Twitter are musicians, and half of all users follow at least one musician.”
