Kevin Hart Strikes Deal for Next Film, ‘Quick & Easy’

Lionsgate and partner Code Black Entertainment have made a deal for Kevin Hart’s next film, “Quick & Easy,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed at CinemaCon on Thursday.

Feltheimer told theater owners that his studio made the deal an hour before taking the stage, describing the process as anything but quick and easy.

Lionsgate and Codeblack struck a deal last May for the production of films, TV shows and other entertainment properties for black or “urban” audiences. Jeff Clanagan’s Code Black worked with Hart on his last concert film, “Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain,” which grossed $7.7 million in limited release.

Lionsgate and Code Black will also release Hart’s stand-up special, “Let Me Explain” on July 3. Hart, who was emceeing the presentation, described “Let Me Explain” as his best work yet.

As for this next film, he said Feltheimer had been pursuing a deeper relationship by courting him with invitations to golf at the Riviera Country Club.

“I kept telling him: ‘Jon, black people don’t play golf,'” Hart joked. When Feltheimer countered with a Lakers game, Hart acquiesced.

Now that he’s welcomed Hart into the Lionsgate family, Feltheimer demonstrated his comfort with the comedian by making a pair of jokes about Hart’s recent DUI.

“‘Let me Explain’ is a perfect title,” Feltheimer said. “That’s exactly what Kevin said when he was pulled over last Friday night.”

On this next film, Feltheimer said, Hart will have a driver.
