Alleged Baltimore Drug Kingpin Busted in Atlanta

An alleged drug kingpin from Baltimore was arrested in Buckhead this week before he had a chance to set up shop in Atlanta, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Marshals Service spokesman Gavin Duffy said Jeffery Cofield is “suspected to be a primary supplier of illegal narcotics in the Baltimore area.”

Cofield was wanted on federal narcotics distribution and weapons charges, as well as being a “person of interest in a brutal drug-related homicide in Baltimore,” Duffy said in an e-mail.

Cofield was located and arrested without incident Wednesday at a condominium in Buckhead. An assault rifle and pistol, along with large amounts of drugs and cash, were also seized at the condo, according to Duffy. Two associates of Cofield were also arrested, he said.

“The Marshals Service has an integrated computer network that permits leads to be sent from all over the nation and be acted on immediately,” Chief Inspector Keith Booker said. “In this case, we were able to have Mr. Cofield in custody in less than 24 hours, before he could establish himself in Atlanta.”
