Trailer for New AMC Drama 'Low Winter Sun'

AMC is premiering yet another series about an antiheroic protagonist in a morally murky world, and now we have a trailer for it. Low Winter Sun is described as thus:

The AMC Original Series Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Based on the award-winning 2006 British miniseries of the same name, Low Winter Sun stars Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Zero Dark Thirty) and co-stars Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Jericho, Snatch). Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Season one consists of ten, one-hour episodes and premieres Summer 2013 on AMC.

I’d like to be positive, but there are qualms. First, there’s the fact that AMC, after striking incredible gold twice in a row with Mad Men and Breaking Bad, hasn’t made a good show since. Also, remember what happened the last time the channel brought on someone who’d mostly worked on standard network procedurals as the showrunner for a remake of a foreign miniseries? The Killing happened, and it was awful. And this is just a personal thing, but I’m actually growing kind of weary of new cable dramas centered around antiheroes. It feels less like honest artistic intent and more like mindless imitation of what’s proved to be popular.

But who knows. Maybe Low Winter Sun will be good. For now, check out the trailer:
