Michelle Obama to Grace Vogue’s Shape Issue

Michelle Obama will be one of Vogue magazine’s cover girls (again) shortly.

The first lady will promote her healthy lifestyle and get-fit agenda in Vogue’s “Shape” issue, which celebrates the beauty and well-being of women’s bodies every April.

While the popular women’s magazine could have tapped almost any celebrity or celebrity trainer to cover their pages, they have once again turned to first lady.

It’s no wonder why those at the fashion publication would chose Obama given her mission to fight childhood obesity and promote healthy living.

The first lady spoke to the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 2010 about the alarming statistics of childhood obesity. “Over the past year, I’ve been thinking, reading and speaking a lot about this issue, but the statistics never fail to take my breath away,” she said. “Right now, nearly one-third of children in America are overweight or obese – one in three. And one-third of all children today will eventually suffer from diabetes – in the African-American and Latino communities, it goes up to almost half.”

Even though Vogue is publishing a “Shape” issue, which highlights topics such as body image, with Anna Wintour at the helm, style still reigns supreme.

On past covers, Obama has worn clothes from her go-to designer Jason Wu.  The first lady selected a Wu design for her husband’s State of the Union address earlier this year. After President Obama’s historic win in 2008, she wore a custom-designed Wu one-shoulder, white chiffon gown to the inaugural ball. Since then, the first lady has been one of the designer’s most loyal and high profile customers.
