Sean Bean Joins Lana and Andy Wachowski's 'Jupiter Ascending'

Sean Bean, who’s mostly known for his stoically heroic roles in such fantasy epics as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, will now be taking on a “Han Solo-type character” in the Wachowski’s next feature film, Jupiter Ascending.

Jupiter Ascending is already set to star Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis and Eddie Redmayne, involving a universe where humans are considered the lowest of the low in terms of evolution. However, a lowly Russian — Played by Kunis — makes the Queen of the Universe feel somewhat threatened, resulting in the hiring of a more evolved, blue-eyed, muscle-clad species to eliminate her (played by Tatum, naturally). Things go awry when, you guessed it, the assassin manages to fall for Kunis, vowing to do whatever he can to save her.

Sean Bean‘s role, Stinger, has only been referred as a “Han Solo-type” by Deadline, causing a significant uproar in the news community due to its vagueness. He may be an outsider, another lowly human, a renegade evolved species, a villain, or just another lowly smuggler that finds a cause worth fighting for and a few new friends along the way (do ho ho). Whatever role he takes, we’re sure Sean Bean’s talent will show through enough to earn him a significant amount of screen time.

Sean Bean has been busier than one might think this past year, starring in a few action and fantasy flicks bolstering such names as Soldiers of Fortune, Cleanskin and Mirror Mirror. He’s also reprised his role in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D before going on to work in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

As for Jupiter Ascending, the Wachowskis are keen on keeping plot points and story specifics securely under wraps. However, with such eye candy as Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, combined with such talent as Eddie Redmayne (did you see Les Miserables, yet?!) and Sean Bean, we’re sure — or at least hoping — its quality will be plenty.
