Alicia Keys Swamped With Film Festival, Superbowl, And Inauguration

After being set to perform at three of President Obama’s Inauguration events this Monday, plus being booked for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on Feb. 3, it’s amazing Alicia Keys has time to show up at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah to debut her new film.

The fourteen-time Grammy-award winning artist is attending her first Sundance Film Festival to showcase The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete,  which premiered Friday. The film follows two young boys and their struggle to survive the streets of Brooklyn on their own.

Keys executive produced and created the score for the project, which was directed by George Tillman, Jr.  The 32-year-old entertainer had this to say to the AP about what that experience was like.

“I think it really expanded me because it’s a beautiful collaborative process,” she said. “Being able to collaborate with George, and he has such a cool feeling about music and is specific about how it related to each scene, and that was really interesting. There were some pieces that came really naturally to me and others that I had to kind of think more of how does that feel, what should that feel like?”

Besides debuting The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete this weekend, Alicia Key will be rehearsing her Inauguration performances. However, she is really obsessed with her historic third appearance at the Super Bowl.  The singer says she will be performing the national anthem in a new way so she’s been spending a lot of time rehearsing her rendition for the NFL championship game.

“I’m really excited about it, I can’t even lie,” she said with a smile. “I have to rehearse it totally, as if it’s a brand new song, because it is actually a brand new song in the style that I’ll deliver it. I’m actually rehearsing it like a maniac.”

Last year, Super Bowl XLVI Was the most watched television program ever, attracting 111 million Americans to watch the annual sports event.  This year Alicia Keys performance will be televised live on CBS prior to the Feb. 3rd kickoff time. She will be joined by another award-winning singer-actor, Beyonce Knowles, who is slated to perform with her former Destiny’s Child band members at the halftime show.
