'The Office' Finale Promises The Return Of Past Characters

Office fans, don’t get TOO excited, as of now Steve Carell doesn’t plan on reprising his role as Dunder Mifflin boss, Michael Scott. B.J Novak, Mindy Kaling, and Zach Woods, however, are all on board to return as Ryan, Kelly, and Gabe respectively.

The Office wraps its 9th and final season this May and plans to go out with a bang…and a pink slip. Executive Producer Greg Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter that big changes are coming for Dunder Mifflin. One of the characters will be fired which will cause some major water cooler drama. Additionally, over the final few episodes the documentary crew will be revealed and we’ll learn why they’ve been filming this particular dysfunctional office all these years. Daniels also warned that fans shouldn’t expect everything to be simply tied up in the last episode. He revealed the beginning of the end starts around the 12th episode of the final 24, so if you want to tune in to the final season you should start “right away.”

As of now, B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, and Zach Woods will be returning for at least the finale. Daniels is pushing for Kaling and Novak to appear in more than just the final episode. It wouldn’t be right to finish the show without our favorite off-again-on-again couple Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard.

NBC’s entertainment chief, Bob Greenblatt, warns fans not to count on a Steve Carell cameo. He recently commented that “Steve is very much of the opinion that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode and the story arc we did leading up to it was his goodbye to fans and the show. This season is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have. At the moment, we don’t have any plans for him to come back.”
On the other hand, Daniels also revealed that the final episodes have not yet been written. In my ever hopeful point of view that still leaves room for a triumphant Michael Scott return. Do you think the “world’s best (and most awkward) boss” will be back for the final episodes?
Will Steve Carell return to Scranton, PA one last time?
