Christie’s Sets New Record in Auction That Includes Works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Warhol, Others

Christie’s, the worldwide leading auctioneer of high-end merchandise and sales, set another record at its recent Post-War and Contemporary Art event. The total sales of $412,253,100 establish a new high for Post-War and Contemporary Art. Eight new records in auction history stemmed from the sale as well.

Andy Warhol, Franz Kline, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Jeff Koons, and Roy Lichtenstein are some of the artists that make up the 92 percent sell-through level achieved. Eleven lots sold for more than $10 million; 16 lots at more than $5 million; and 56 went for more than $1 million. The sale-to-value ratio of the auction was 93 percent.

“This evening’s sale set a new record total for any Post-War and Contemporary Art sale.
