Arnold Returns to Form in 'The Last Stand' Trailer

The iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger is once again flexing his muscles and acting skills with a new, full-length trailer for the upcoming action flick, The Last Stand.

The Last Stand is Jee-Woon Kim‘s directorial debut in America, although he’s already known in South Korea and cult audiences for 2003’s quirky but creepy A Tale of Two Sisters and 2010’s crime drama I Saw the Devil. Luckily, he’ll have such talent as the legendary Schwarzenegger, the forever-versatile Forest Whitaker and the quirky duo of both Johnny Knoxville and Luis Guzman ushering in the film and showcasing his talents to an American audience.

The official synopsis for The Last Stand reads:

Action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon’s hard-hitting US directorial debut, THE LAST STAND. After leaving his LAPD narcotics post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with remorse and regret, Sheriff Ray Owens (Schwarzenegger) moved out of Los Angeles and settled into a life fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction. But that peaceful existence is shattered when Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly yet spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy. With the help of a fierce band of lawless mercenaries led by the icy Burrell (Peter Stormare), Cortez begins racing towards the US-Mexico border at 250 mph in a specially-outfitted Corvette ZR1 with a hostage in tow.

The trailer doesn’t really hide the fact that The Last Stand is set to be fun, action-packed and slightly reminiscent of the action films that made Arnold Schwarzenegger who he is today. Sort of like The Expendables, but a bit more fun (the guy from Jackass is in it, after all) and slightly less star-studded (the guy Jackass is in it, after all). The real question will be whether or not the film can actually manage to convey a worthwhile storyline and keep audiences listening. As you may be able to tell from the trailer, aside from the fancy cars, the guns and the one-liners, not much else is going on.

In any case, audiences should know by now what to expect from this sort of flick: you’re either along for the ride or not. The Last Stand‘s release date currently sits as Jan. 18 of next year, so die-hard fans of the Governator will not have to wait long. Enjoy the trailer and the poster below!
