Kenya Moore Resets the Drama on Season 5 of Real Housewives of Atlanta

Real Housewives of Atlanta – Atlanta’s resident divas brought new faces, fresh fights and security detail to Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which premiered Sunday night on Bravo.

The episode centered around the introduction of new housewife Kenya Moore, a former Miss USA who starred alongside Whitney Houston in 1995’s “Waiting to Exhale.”  Moore integrated herself into the group immediately, helping Cynthia Bailey cast models at the Bailey Agency for Jet magazine’s Beauty of the Week.

Moore certainly seemed eager to make an impression, instigating the season’s first security call—a badge of honor in Real Housewives world. After Moore started taking jabs at the models and Bailey’s assistant, the two ladies got into a shouting match that resulted in Moore calling her security detail.

Prior to the premiere, Moore admitted in an interview with HuffPost BlackVoices she behaved out of character more than a few times,

“There were some times where I feel like I got out of character, I lost my cool, and I disappointed myself as well as my younger fans who look up to me from knowing me as Miss USA. But we’re human. The greatest thing about this show is it is a reality show, and it’s capturing our lives, and we’re not perfect. I’m not perfect, I don’t act like a model citizen all the time … but I certainly felt the stress at times being in these different situations with these ladies. So you’ll see some of that. But you’ll also see the fun side of me, the great side of me and the compassionate side, and all of those things make up who I am. Hopefully you guys will have a fun time watching me take this ride.”

Fellow cast member Phaedra Parks commented on the incident in “Watch What Happens Live,” calling Moore “a beauty queen on bath salts.”

A lot has happened to the other ladies since Season 4.  Parks is trying to expand her funeral business to pets, in addition to somehow still practicing law.

Singer/housewife Kandi Burruss revealed her longtime mystery man, Todd, who also happens to be a RHOA producer. The episode revealed the two are set to move in together into a fabulous new mansion.

On the other hand, Kim Zolciak has mansion woes, being forced to move out of her home mere weeks before the arrival of her fourth child.

Meanwhile, NeNe Leakes is mulling over a possible reconciliation with husband Gregg, who claimed he wants his family back.  Leakes also humorously tried to phone “good friend” Tyler Perry, only to realize the number had been disconnected.

Notably missing was long-time cast member Sheree Whitfield, who left the show at the end of last season.

“After four solid seasons of helping Bravo build the show into its most successful Housewives franchise, I have decided to leave,” Whitfield told Wetpaint, with all of her trademark humility.

Whitfield further noted,  “The direction the show is going in is no longer a fit for my lifestyle. I’m tired of the fighting and the cattiness.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 9pm.
