'The Wolverine' Gets an Awesome Teaser Poster

How do you solve a problem like Wolverine? Arguably Marvel’s most iconic on-screen character, Wolverine first broke out in X-Men. Filmmakers have been trying to build a new X-Men/Wolverine film franchise since the disappointing X-Men: The Last Stand, including the ill-fated spin-off X-Men Origins. After the failure of that prequel effort, how do you convince viewers another Wolverine movie is worth their time?

With a seriously awesome teaser poster, of course.

After playing Logan for more than a decade, Hugh Jackman is back as everyone’s favorite hairy, cigar-chomping mutant in a new stand-alone movie, The Wolverine.

Based on the 1982 critically-acclaimed comic book arc by Frank Miller and Chris Clairemont, The Wolverine sees Logan battling ninjas and Yakuza in Japan.

Taking its aesthetics from Japanese calligraphy, this teaser poster is a beautiful example of a major studio blockbuster doing it right. After near character burnout, The Wolverine should be fresh, new, and most importantly, deeply ingrained in the kind of Wolverine comic fans have always wanted to see on the big screen. This minimalist, brushstroke beauty does the trick.

The poster comes courtesy of Coming Soon, where they also have video of Hugh Jackman and The Wolverine director James Mangold discussing more details on the film’s 2013 release.
