Teaser Poster for 'The World's End'

Fandango has a new poster for The World’s End, the final film in director Edgar Wright’s “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy.” The previous installments of the trilogy are Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. These three movies are united by their common use of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as leads, copious amounts of violence (hence the “blood” part), and the appearance of Cornetto brand ice cream (hence the “ice cream” part). The other two movies were also loving parodies, Shaun of zombie films and Fuzz of the action genre, and presumably this one will be poking fun at apocalyptic cinema.

The official synopsis is as follows:

“20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”

This poster doesn’t tell us much, but I don’t care. Shaun and Hot Fuzz are among the best films of their respective years, brilliantly scripted and overbrimming with heart and laughs. Edgar Wright is one of the most exciting directors working today, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
