Did Jon Hamm Avoid Press Because Of 'Mad Men' Emmy Snub?

After getting 17 nominations at last nights Emmy awards, AMC’s Mad Men left with no hardware at the end of the night to show for it.

The show, that has become AMC’s viewers choice, was overlooked on TV’s biggest stage and even lost to Homeland, in Best Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama and Best Actor in a Drama categories.

Looks like the Emmy committee didn’t want to make history for Mad Men, which easily won Best Drama Series four consecutive years. Had Mad Men won this year, it would have beat other record holders Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, and The West Wing.

Jon Hamm lead the cast of Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks and Jared Harris that was nominated this year. In a interview with The LA Times, show creator Matt Weiner said, “I’m shocked to be here, I always am. I’m excited about tonight; I think we have a real shot.” Possibly Hamm, not sharing Weiner’s optimism, knew last night was going to be a bust, which could be the reason why he bypassed the press line and went straight into the theater.

Host Jimmy Kimmel didn’t waste any time making fun of Hamm misfortune. In his monologue, Kimmel joked about Hamm’s losing streak. “Jon, you gave a tremendous performance this year,” Kimmel affirmed. “I for one am shocked you didn’t win tonight.” Hamm gave a light smiled, but the crowd murmured. “Too soon?” Kimmel continued. “He’ll be fine. Look at him!”
