In a bizarre twist, the parents of Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison have filed a lawsuit against the Olympian, claiming she spread stories they had been selfish and cheating her financially.
According to the Associated Press, Robert and Jo Ann Madison filed the libel, slander and defamation lawsuit Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in Cleveland. The Madisons argue they’ve been nothing but loving, supportive and generous parents to the gold medalist.
Madison was a member of the winning 4×100-meter relay team this summer in London along with Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter. The ladies captured the goal in world record time.
The sprinter’s parents couldn’t be reached for comment Friday, according to the Associated Press. They each are seeking more than $25,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.
