Jennifer Lopez Gets 'The Fosters' Picked Up By ABC Family

With American Idol in the rear-view mirror, Jennifer Lopez has a new gig, now that ABC Family has picked up her new drama pilot.

ABC Family announced today that Lopez’s hour-long family drama, currently titled, The Fosters, has been given the green light. The show, created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige (Emmett on Queer as Folk), follows the story of a multi-ethnic family made up of both foster and biological kids. The family is headed by a lesbian couple.

Jennifer Lopez will executive produce The Fosters, which right now looks to be ABC’s answer to NBC’s upcoming family drama The New Normal. As of yet, no casting has been announced for the series.

It seems that making movies and TV shows is one of the many things that pulled J Lo away from her judging seat on American idol. Her film company, Nuyorican, is currently developing other TV series, including Taming Ben Taylor, a romantic comedy starring herself, and Sweet Little 15, a Mexican girl’s coming-of-age story.

Looking at history, it’s probably safe to say that Lopez’s show has a good chance at succeeding.  Almost everything the actress, singer, dancer, and businesswoman touches turns to gold — well everything minus romantic relationships.
