Kobe’s Wife Vanessa Bryant Says She’s Not a Gold Digger

Vanessa Bryant wants to clarify something with the general public: She is NOT a gold digger. The wife of NBA great Kobe Bryant has caught a lot of heat for her comments during an interview with New York magazine focused on the wives of several NBA stars.

“I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can’t win championships. If you’re sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.”

The comments rubbed many people the wrong way, and critics across the country began to label Bryant’s wife a gold digger. The usually quiet Bryant released the following statement to TMZ in reaction to the backlash.

“I’m sad to hear that comments in my New York Magazine interview are being misconstrued and taken out of context. I have and will continue to support my husband’s dreams. I have been with Kobe for 13 years. I accepted his marriage proposal PRIOR to him winning any of his 5 championships with his teammates.

For anyone to think otherwise is wrong. It is not about being married to a ‘winner’ it is about our sacrifice as a family.”

According to necolebitchie.com, Kobe proposed to Vanessa just one month before he won his first NBA Championship in 2000. Vanessa filed for divorce in December, but the two have since decided to reconcile.
