'The Price Is Right' Searches For Male Models: Did They Get This One Wrong?

CBS’s  game show, The Price Is Right,  is known for its extravagant prize giveaways, which includes flashy cars, posh new living room sets, and exotic vacations.  The  show is also known for the lovely smiling beauties who displayed the prizes to the contestants.

Except for host Bob Barker being replaced by Drew Carey after he retired, The Price Is Right has pretty much followed the same winning formula that made it the longest running game show in American history.

But after nearly 40 years on air, the game show may be trying to mix things up a bit. The prizes have always been presented by the female models; however, an opportunity has opened up for a lucky guy because the show is holding a contest to find its first male model.

The search for a male model will air as a five-episode web series on The Price is Right‘s official website and on its YouTube channel in late September, according to a CBS announcement.

Producers of the show, as well as the female models,  will judge contestants on “qualities such as their verbal skills, posing and ability to properly showcase a product.”  An open casting call will be held in Los Angeles on Thursday, Aug. 30, and viewers will vote online at Priceisright.com for the winner.

But will male models be right for the show. The audience of daytime TV has not changed much since The Price Is Right first debuted in 1956. Females, age 25 to 54, are  primarily the ones  tuning in to covet the lucky contestants or envy the beauty of the models.  So maybe  it’s a no-brainer to throw a handsome stud in the mix to keep things interesting for  the target demo.
