Sherman Hemsley’s alleged cause of death is lung cancer, according to TMZ.
Hemsley’s post mortem report lists his cause of death as “superior vena cava syndrome,” meaning he had a cancerous mass on his lung. According the report, Hemsley knew about the mass and was advised to seek medical attention. Soon after his death, Irene Santiago, administrative manager of the El Paso coroner’s office announced there would be no autopsy since he died from natural causes and said Hemsley had been ill but did not elaborate.
Hemsley, best known for his role as George Jefferson on the sitcoms “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons,” was found dead in his El Paso home last month. He was 74 years old. He never married and has no children.
