Sofia Vergara is TV’s Highest Paid Star

Colombian sexpot Sofia Vergara is the queen of the female television stars, earning more money in the past year than any other woman on TV, according to the Forbes list of highest earners .

Just a week after turning 40, Vergara edged out Kim Kardashian as the cash queen, raking in $19 million between May 2011 and May 2012, a million dollars more than Kardashian. Vergara earned her money through her starring role on the ABC hit Modern Family, endorsements and commercials for Cover Girl, Pepsi, Burger King, Comcast and State Farm, plus her role as one half of the management company Latin World Entertainment. If you think you see Vergara starring in television commercials every five minutes…that’s because you do.

And the commercials weren’t all. Vergara also starred in four movies during that 12-month span: The Smurfs, Happy Feet 2, New Year’s Eve and The Three Stooges.

After Vergara and Kardashian, the rest of the top 10 includes Eva Longoria ($15 million), Bethenny Frankel ($12 million), Khloe Kardashian Odom ($11 million), Tina Fey ($11 million), Mariska Hargitay ($10 million), Zooey Deschanel ($9 million), Felicity Huffman ($9 million) and Ellen Pompeo ($9 million).

With just two of the Kardashian sisters totaling nearly $30 million, one can’t help but be impressed by the marketing and endorsement machine that the Kardashian family has become.

In a short period of time, Vergara has become as recognized for her comic genius as her sex appeal. She has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Comedy Actress. In a story that sounds like something out of a fairy tale, Vergara was discovered by a photographer while walking on a beach in Colombia. She didn’t want do her first appearance until she got permission from the teachers at her Catholic school. Interestingly, the beauty is actually a natural blonde, but she began dyeing her hair when she was repeatedly told she didn’t look Latin enough.
